Goodbye Summer

Somewhere (it's a secret) on Cape Cod 2011

September is my favorite month of the year.  I was married in September, my husband was born in September, and the kids go back to school in September!  Since becoming empty nesters my husband and I head off to the beach in September to absorb the last few days of summer and to welcome in the bright crisp days of fall.

What Does Fashion Week Have in Common With Michigan Football?

The Libertine Fall Collection!

Libertine's Fall Collection to be shown September 10 at Exit Art

Is it a coincidence that Libertine will be showing Maize and Blue the day of the Michigan vs Notre Dame Game?

Mayor's Charity Ball - And The Winner Was......

Well this post has been a long time in coming since the Mayor's Charity Ball was in early May, but since many of you are still reading my earlier posts about my dress dilemma I thought you deserved to know the final outcome.  This years dress choice ended up being a beautiful, conservative (of course), black, almost vintage, Tadashi.

The truth is, when it comes to fashion, I'm all about comfort.  While I absolutely loved the other dresses I was considering I knew I would be most comfortable dancing and dining in this one.

I found this dress late in my search but I loved it immediately.  It has exquisite detailing with a pleated bodice that crosses in the front to form a beautiful drape, and the beaded lace shoulders and back are stunning.  I wore a pair of black strapy sandals and kept my jewelry to a minimum choosing simple sterling and CZ earrings and a matching pendant by Crislu. I paired them with vintage rhinestone line bracelets, one on each wrist.

Pros:
1.) Comfortable, I could actually sit down in this dress.
2.) Felt like a princess and what a surprise when a real princess chose a beaded bodice for her wedding dress.
3.) Matched my husband's madras plaid tie and cummerbund, which by the way, was the most expensive item purchased for the ball!

Cons:
1.) Had a slight wardrobe malfunction while dancing, if I twisted one way the bodice went the opposite direction.
2.) Couldn't wear the nude peep toe shoes I purchased for this event (which also happened to be the  original inspiration for this thread).
3.) Wish I had though, since the strapy sandals snapped forcing me to go shoeless for most of the night.

In all, it was a great evening and I'm already looking forward to next year's event.  Many communities sponsor Mayor's Charity Balls in support of local charities and I encourage you to attend one.  Of course, wear vintage!
